Record your small victories!

You achieve great things every day; you might not think twice about them, but recognizing your small daily wins will have a major impact on your life.

I began recording my little wins daily when I had my corporate job and was building my business to escape the rat race. It became a part of my daily routine. I took out my notebook each night and recorded three to five victories from that day. My rules were simple: I had to list at least three, and these victories could be anything that moved me closer to my goals. The size of the win did not matter.

I was digging in a file cabinet recently and found a few of my old books. I took a few minutes to look at them, like opening a time capsule. In hindsight, these little wins look quite ridiculous compared to my wins today. Here’s a glance inside my past wins.

One entry read, “I received an accepted offer one day (I built my passive income through land investing).” That was a victory because I wasn’t getting accepted offers every day.

Another recording was that “I completed due diligence on a property.” This was another huge accomplishment at the time because the work was new.

Other little victories I recorded included opening a bank account for my business, getting a post office box, and adding someone to my mailing list. These wins were so small that, looking back at them, it’s hard to see them as wins, but they were.

Looking back at your recorded wins lets you see how far you’ve come. Your small little steps lead to larger wins. You benefit from compounding wins on top of other wins. Like everything, you didn’t just run when you learned to walk. You slowly start stepping and walking, then learn to find balance. And then, eventually, you started running around the house.

It’s the same thing when you learn how to drive a car. You don’t just get in a car and drive all over town. Do you remember learning to drive? My knuckles were gripping the steering wheel so tight; they were white. Have you ever taught a child how to ride a bike? How often did they fall off before they finally had the balance to ride around the block?

Throughout your life, you have had all of these small victories. Then, when it comes time to start your business, change your career, or grow in some way, we forget about our proven track record of building on our small wins, and we want and expect results quickly.

When we don’t achieve what we want, when we want it, it’s hard to keep the momentum going. But what if you changed your approach and started documenting and capturing the three to five things you think made the day a win? Changing this one thing allows you to celebrate the victories, even small ones.

When we see these daily wins, our minds will pitch in, and we will be more motivated to keep going. You will want to keep building your business because even small successes have power. When you don’t see the wins, it’s so much easier to stop working on your business, to stop chasing your passive income dreams, to give up and stay working for the man.

Start building on your momentum. Keep a success journal and record the three to five things that impacted your business or life today.

I hope you take my advice and start incorporating this principle into your life. I know it will make a world of difference to you, and I know that when you look back six months or a year later, you’ll be shocked about your progress. You will laugh and think, “Why did I even write that down as a win?” I promise you that it will help make your journey even more incredible.
